Angela Missoni, who is being honored for her work in fashion, is heir to one of the most famous fashion brands in the world and has emerged as a successful designer in her own right.  She is the third child of Tai and Rosita Missoni, the co-founders of the Italian brand famous for its kaleidoscope and zigzag knits.  Angela began assisting her mother in the conception and creation of the women’s collections at the age of eighteen. This gave her the chance to express her innate feel for fashion, and to acquire her own views on the subject of clothing design. The hands-on experience also made for an invaluable way to learn all the steps in the process, from initial sketch to actual sale of the clothes.

Then, from the early to mid-eighties, Angela took an extended break from the business, during which time she married Marco Maccapani, producer/director of fashion shows and other events. She also became the mother of three children: Margherita (1983), Francesco (1985) and Teresa (1988).  When she returned to the company, she began both designing a collection under her own name and working in tandem with Rosita, devoting serious attention to the main line. This set in motion a progressive restyling of the Missoni fashion vision for women.
Today Angela is co-owner of Missoni S.p.A., along with her brother Luca.  Beyond her role as creative director of the women’s collection, she assumes sole responsibility for the company’s style, including the men’s collection and licences.  Angela is also totally committed to infusing the family brand with new energy.  Thus she proved a major force in renewing the store concept and in giving the ad campaigns – shot by various world-class photographers – a most contemporary slant. In just a few years, Missoni fashion has taken on a fresh new identity.  As for the Missoni shows, they again mark important and popular occasions and make an authoritative, international statement in the communication of trends and ideas.

Michael Aram is an American born artist who works primarily in metal. After studying fine art and living as an artist in New York in the late 1980's, Aram took what would later be a lifealtering trip to India where he discovered rich metalworking traditions. Inspired to work with craftsmen whose skills he felt were greatly untapped, Aram turned his creative energies towards craft based design, setting up a home and workshop in New Delhi. Aram's work reflects humanity through the directness of the handmade process, as each piece is lovingly made using age old traditional techniques. The artisan nature of the work imbues it with a soulful quality and an energy, which Aram feels is only possible with work, which reflects the hand of the maker. Bridging the gap between the artist and artisan is a hallmark of Michael Aram's work.
